It's sad to say. But the way the law handled the case happens very often with Native American Women. I am Native and live in NC on a reservation. I'm involved with MMIW and see cases like this a lot. Most are unsolved or handled badly. Thank you for bringing attention to this case and showing others that Native American Women matters. ?

Yes! Bars/clubs close at 2am and if you live in a college town there’s always after parties or we would go to a diner to grab a bite and chitchat and we get home between 3-5am at the latest 6am. I lived in a college town and there was always something to do. Also, in most college towns there are always 24hrs stores such as 7/11 or CVS and then some restaurants start opening their doors at around or 6am. Chances are that even though her Rosie was too drunk to drive they stop at convenience store, diner, pizza shop or at an after hours party to hang out for a bit.

Definitely in England at uni you get to the club at about 11. It's dead before then. But you start drinking pres at like 7/8pm. Then leavinf the club at about 3am and sometimes there's an after party at someone's house. That was mt experience and I graduated in 2021. So its similar to the US I guess

A couple gens back, a patriarch dropped his actual last name and took up his middle name.. at the time, there were just too many John Olsons in Midwest Nebraska & South Dakota. His middle name became my maiden name, eventually. Then, I married a man who's last name is his adoptive father's.
I can't trace my past. I feel no pull towards an intrinsic culture. I have no culture. I am just a Midwest white woman. However, I grew up with Indigenous peoples, or Natives as it was always collectively said. Don't ever say Indian. Those beautiful humans have their whole entire culture, all the way across the world. Very, very, very different yet immensely fascinating all the same.
My closest friends, my neighbors, my teachers, my regular corner store employees, family without blood – Kinda Blood In, Blood Out, like. Haha. All Natives. Amazing people, funny and kind people. It was a hard lesson to learn at a young age, for some unfathomable reason…. I was viewed differently than them. They were always targeted, blown off, ignored, berated, judged, discriminated against before I ever was. Even being right there with them.
As the decades have gone by, it has only become more evident in everyday life, from hiring to being a murder victim. A missing person to a voter. No matter who, how or what the Indigenous peoples are…. They are purposely forgotten. Egregiously neglected.
As a by birth only privileged person…. I gotta get loud and passionate about what is being done, without anyone who's not willingly paying attention – noticing. The MMIW list grows and grows in numbers that SHOULD make you SICK. Because if any one of those individuals were me….. What A different story we'd see.
Please. Share these stories. Just look up the MMIW, and let it just sink in.
EXTREMELY important detail to clarify from the beginning. The tribe was recognized by the us government in the 18th century, the tribe itself has been around for thousands of years, the oldest surviving artifacts from the indigenous people in her specific area are from 500-600 CE. Saying it has only existed from the 18th century is another lie used to erase indigenous women and our history. Also, this Sunday was the day we honor all the murdered and missing indigenous women from all tribes. It’s a serious problem that still has to be fixed to this day. My tribe is from a different area than hers, but we all are overcoming the same struggle of indigenous erasure together and I feel like this detail makes a massive difference in expressing this angel’s story.

The message left behind saying "I'm not a bitch" or whatever implies to me that a female was very much involved in this. Whether it was Karina or Marisol is another story, but I'd be surprised if a woman was in no way part of this.

Yes, US college students usually get ready to go out between 10-12 and stay out past 2 when bars close and there’s often an after party till wee hours of the morning…between 3 and 5 am. The latest I can recall going home was 6 am.

I don’t care what ANYONE says about that recording, NO ONE and I do mean NO ONE can hear anything on it! I think the police had tunnel vision for her roommate and her boyfriend. I don’t think Corina didn’t mention her friend with her because of shock and she didn’t think it was such a big deal, which I don’t think it was. But these are just my opinions on this case. Also, the police would have said if it WASN’T Corina on the 911 call, IMO she hasn’t spoken about Faith’s death because everything she said was twisted and used against her. No matter what happens, I do believe they have the correct person in jail(Miguel) and Faith deserves justice.

We need more stories about indigenous women. They're horribly underrepresented and unfortunately a high percentage of murder and assault victims and they deserve to have their names and stories known
