Sure avoid snobbery by buying a fun loving Invicta or a Guess watch and be happy. and then wear them with your expensive bespoke suits, silk ties, custom made shoes and $250.00 shirts.. BTW …there is no snobbery in those items when worn …right!!!
A thoroughly shameless sales pitch of a watch that costs over 2k and doesn't even have position on the crown to change the date, and that flat, printed dial is pathetic at that price. And Nomos celebrating 175 years of watchmaking when they're only a few decades old is disgraceful..
The watch "religion" is so tiresome, as you pointed out. I for one enjoy watches and that is the end of it
When it comes to watches, I literally just wear whatever looks good. As long as it tells time, is comfortable and looks good, it checks all the boxes. Yes, there are some super shitty watches that have 59 sec minutes, and thus do not meet the “tells time” factor, but for the most part they’re all good. Wear whatever you like as long as it’s not a damn smartwatch with a tux.
I can’t remember which YouTuber said it. But it’s always stuck with me. Buy what you like, the only person who cares what is on your wrist is you.
You are right, there is a lot of judgement and snobbery in watches.
My modest collection is built up of mainly affordable items and the most worn ones are £200 and below.
Brian good to have you back and love your take on watches – very relatable. Nomos was my first serious watch 9 years ago and boy have I fallen down the rabbit hole: just treated myself to a Patek 5070g to commemorate my upcoming 50th lap around the sun. I have to catch myself taking the hobby a bit too seriously and when I do that’s what gets me back into that headspace that made this fun to begin with. Thanks for what you do – really refreshing content as always.

Just returned from 2 weeks in Italy & I'm convinced Italian men are some of the coolest, most elegant men on the planet. Linen trousers/shirts, blazers, fine knits AND the sockless look to perfection ? – loved all the watches & your styling of them ?? bravo ?

True, though to be fair, those men are in the minority. Most watch enthusiasts are helpful and inclusive, especially to noobs.
I am 19 and am trying to save most of my money. The watches i could afford are fossil, but hopefully, someday, i will be able to afford better and cooler watches
Ive decided im happy with the more budget end watches like Helm or Vostok. They are fun and moddable.
If they reduce the lug to lug measures, they will sell a lot more!
Having collected watches for almost 20 years. I have always strived to understand why someone loves certain watches. If it’s a flex. Fine. That’s nice for them. Not for me. But if it’s as something as small as loving the way the indices looks in low level restaurant lighting? Then I can get behind the weirdness.
Also, I don’t need to love everything. They all cater to their own segments. I cant and won’t want to own all but I can appreciate them and love them for those who enjoy them.
I love nomos for this reason. It spits in the face of conventional watches (boring, dull, lack of perepnality, something only a 90 year old man would wear)

Watch snobs and self-aggrandizing style “experts” are insecure, self-appointed gatekeepers looking to make others feel bad in a misguided attempt to artificially elevate themselves.
Very good video. The watches are very nice, but what I think I appreciated more were the ‘grown up casual’ outfits. I always love your suit videos, but I probably find your casual outfit videos to be more helpful. Thanks, Brian.
