Madame Web is, for better or worse, one of the most talked about movies of 2024. And one thing people can’t stop talking about is Madame Web’s bizarre use of ADR or Automatic Dialogue Replacement. I want to look at that a little deeper. Figure out what was changed, why, and try to piece together the original story.

Show of hands, who actually watched Madame Web?
"I remember seeing Madame Web for the first time…" I sure hope so its only May.
Did you actually put she hulk above Spider-Man?
What did you call it.?? ADR has always meant "additional dialogue recording" to me !
This also happened in the movie "The Snowman".
Red umbrella in rainforest is first no-go.
Sorry dude, I'm not watching you talk about a movie that is as bad as this one for 49 minutes. That would be a little more than double the time I spent watching it before I stopped. No way this needs to be 49 minutes long…
Could they have made a movie from kraven the hunter cut scenes?
Pepsi's Madame Web is definitely one of the movies out there.
Some of the edits look straight out of Kung Pow. What a mess of a movie.
Did AI write this movie?
Some of the spoken errors (dramatic instead of drastic, February 14th instead of 16th) had me Convinced there would be some ongoing theme with that to connect to the ADR conversation
You helped to create Nebula? Shame on you.
Sure, that's a nice trick. Now do it while convincing 8 executives they're wrong about including a rhino crossover.
EMT and paramedic are different.
That review made me thirsty for some odd reason
Movie-making essentially is an editing process, you film lots of scenes, b-rolls, record audios and ADRs for clarity; and finally cut and paste all those things into a movie. An editor will make or break a movie in the end.
I didn't watch the movie, but this video was very entertaining.
14:16 – Give him the P!
12:32 – Fun fact: most of the Amazon Rainforest is in Brazil, but every movie and series depicts it in Peru. Don't do that! Much respect, and Please Come to Brazil.
8:17 – LOL!
6:44 – I also want a magic spider bite. Where in the Amazon is that again?
5:52 – I like Pepsi too!
4:00 – Wow. She has some nice… Eyes.
"Very sad. Pepsi." Made me burst out laughing XD
Man, am I the only one who misses the one small change/ rewrite videos? I understand Nando not wanting to do it, but that and videos like this were always the most interesting thing to watch. I love hearing people that know a lot about writing talk about writing hypotheticals in a story. I would do anything to get those videos back.
Never heard of you, but why are you making a 50 minute video about this?
wow. calling watching the Alastair Sim version of scrooge "brain damage" leds to me immediately stop watching.
Madame Web is a momentous occasion for me as a filmgoer:
It was the first movie with the Marvel label I skipped in theaters since 2008
As a professional editor, I find your breakdowns of these ADR disasters riveting. I've rewatched your Artemis Fowl video several times. These really are excellent works of journalism you're doing here, and you should be proud.
sounds like a woke censorship of the script and they had to chance all the dialogue after shooting.
Did your girlfriend break up with you?
I never even knew this movie came out ?
Yup that was basically my take after watching. That the film was basically enjoyable but the weird ADR issues gave it a little bit of the uncanny valley effect you get from watching badly dubbed foreign film, especially since the villain had an accent.
Wait, she-hulk?! What? I'm out of here
I would buy or at least rent this movie if all of these details were in multiple commentaries. Preferably on a streaming service. Maybe PlayStation+ or whatever it's called.
You need a conspiracy board with photos, notecards, newspaper clippings, and post-its with strings between them. The truth about Ezekiel is out there.
I knew Nando was tapped in. We in the culture, appreciate the Mike Epps shout out
I think that it made more sense for the villain to be a fellow scientist. That would explain his knowledge and interest in the spider.
From what i gather producers couldn't agree on what they wanted this film to be.
I'm starting to think Sony is just making these F-list movies regularly just so they can cling to some expiring rights. I think there was a clause in a contract sometime ago, for some franchise, that stated that if nothing is produced within 5 years the company loses the license. Could be the case here too. Sony doesnt expect to make money on these, they just want to hold on to the rights.
Edit: 37:10 I also think the NSA woman's line ended with a "thank you" that was then repurposed to use the end of that "thank you" as just "q" (sounds similar enough) and then the rest of the passcode is revealed from her back in ADR. So there was originally no passcode in the script and he killed her for a completely different reason.
